upcoming events

Tomorrow kicks off our first Stimulus Wednesday.  We will have some great yarns at great prices to keep you knitting all summer.  The first will be a big one!
Also, this Thursday's Sit 'N Stitch is also our monthly Sock Yarn Swap.  I was reluctant to start, but am now addicted.  The squares are quick knits and it is fun to watch all of the colors unfold.  Weaving in the ends... well that is another story.  I told my 12 year old son I was making this for him, and that it would be ready when he left for college!

Tennessee's Fiber Festival

I want to remind everyone about the 3rd Annual Tennessee Sheep, Wool and Fiber Festival this weekend.   As before, it will be held in Dickson, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.  The vendor list has continued to grow, so there should be lots to see!

my blooming cotton scarf

Do you remember the Blooming Cotton Scarf by Eunny Jang in Interweave Knits Spring 2009?  It is also a free pattern on knittingdaily.com.   I knew that I wanted one the moment I saw it.  I used the suggested Tahki Cotton Classic, as there are so many colors to choose from, and it is great to work with.  This is the easiest scarf ever.  You only need to know how to knit and slip a stitch.  It is knitted in the round and you only work with one color at a time.  When finished you cut through each round and then unravel until the patterning starts.  That is it- except for the light blocking!

IT is here!

Two blog posts in two days - yes it's true!  Today while at the store working on an endless mound of paperwork, there was a knock.  Although the lights were off, our UPS guy must have noticed I was in because there he stood with a large box seemingly waiting for me to unlock the door.  Guess what he left for us?  A big box of KOIGU!  We will be busy tomorrow morning getting this on the shelves.
Thi
s is also the perfect time to announce our new Sock Yarn Swap. Many are working on the mitered square sock yarn blanket created by The Heathen Housewife (aka Shelly Kang).  We have decided it is much more fun to have as many different varieties of sock yarn for you to get your hands on.  So beginning this Thursday at Sit 'N Stitch we will begin swapping!  We have designated the first Thursday Sit 'N Stitch of each month to be the ongoing swap night.  If you want to participate you will need to bring your sock yarn leftovers in either 10 or 20 yard cuttings.  I create my "hanks" by measuring a yard between my hands, looping it around ten or twenty times, folding it a few times and then tying loosely.  Very scientific!  This is going to be so much fun.

Berroco's Seduce & Stitch Diva

I looked at my last post and realized it was over two weeks ago!  I did go out of town for a few days.  I made the trek down to Atlanta for the first ever Stitches South.  I was surrounded by all things fiber related and people that are obsessed as I am.  I have heard that Stitches South 2010 is already on the calendar, so start planning.
I did start a new project.  I have been looking at Stitch Diva's Simple Knitted Bodice (they refer to this as the easiest sweater you will ever make) and decided it would be great with Berroco's Seduce.  I love this yarn, but could never decide what I wanted to do.  It is a bit slippery, but not bothersome.  Berroco expanded the color range this spring to include 15 solids and 5 variegated shades, and we have them all.  We also carry many of Stitch Diva patterns.  No photos to share yet, as I am only a few inches into it.  I am sure you are thinking "Does she ever finish anything?"  Yes, but not everything I start!  I will have photos this week of my Blooming Cotton Scarf.  I have put my deadline here for everyone to see, so stay tuned.
